UPCPMT Result 2011

LUCKNOW: The results of combined pre-medical test (CPMT) 2011 were announced on Wednesday late evening.

About 50% of the total 61,000 candidates who had taken the exam have been able to secure minimum passing marks. This means that about 30,000 students are eying 1,600 medical and AYUSH seats in state-funded colleges. The level of competition can be guessed from candidate-seat ratio of 1:18.

This seat of higher learning came into existence on August 26, 1975, vide Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 10/15-60/74 under the provision of the U.P. Universities Act. However, though belonging to the younger generation of the Indian Universities, the Bundelkhand University has fast transformed into a University of excellence offering opportunities to the aspiring youths to pursue higher education, applied research and Professional training according to their aptitude and potential.

"He secured 169 out of 200 marks," said the V-C. "He was followed by Shailesh Singh who secured 165 marks. Anshul Tewari and Utkarsh Agarwal bagged the third and fourth places with 164 marks and Kumari Sakshi stood at the fifth place with 163 marks," he added.

Others in the top-ten list are Sarthak Sharma with 163 marks at the sixth position. Ankit Kumar Tandon, Anubhav Pal and Mohd Saalis Pervez scored 162 marks each but they were designated at seventh, eight and ninth places on the basis of a pre-decided and declared formula for ranking people with equal marks.

Jai Narain Verma stood at the tenth position with 161 marks. Notably, four out of the top ten students represent the other backward classes (OBC) category. There were 200 objective type questions, 50 each from physics, chemistry, zoology and botany, in a single three-hour-long paper. A student could score a maximum of 200 marks as there was no negative marking.

The V-C said that he handed over the results to the state medical education department at 9.00 pm and was feeling quite relieved thereafter. "The CPMT is a big responsibility. More than 65,000 students had applied for the exam and 61,000 appeared at some 300 exam centres across 15 districts of the state," he said. The CPMT is the gateway to state medical colleges, Rural Institute of Medical Sciences, Saifai and Chhattrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU). In all, there are 700 medical, 100 dental and 800 AYUSH seats to be allotted through counselling. "The counselling will take place between July 13 and 17. The candidates are advised to check the UP medical education department's website for more details," said K C Rastogi, additional director, state medical education department.
