NESN Secures Replay Rights For 2011-12 English Premier League Season

BOSTON -– NESN, New England's most watched sports network, will replay over 30 English Premier League (EPL) matches this season beginning on Monday, Aug. 15 at 8:00 PM with next-day coverage of the Liverpool versus Sunderland match that takes place at Anfield on Sunday. All of NESN's English Premier League matches will be produced by Fox Soccer and will be distributed on NESN in high definition.

NESN began airing next-day replays of English Premier League matches on NESN in February 2011 after its parent company Fenway Sports Group acquired the Liverpool Football Club.

NESN's EPL broadcast schedule will feature Liverpool Football Club matches as well as coverage of other iconic English Premier League teams such as Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal.

HNR 8/12: Seidel, Mercier at EPL Final Table; D.C., N.Y. Poker News

Erik Seidel and Jason Mercier headline a stacked final table in the Epic Poker League, and updates on live poker in the D.C. and more casinos in New York. It’s all in today’s PTP Hit and Run.

Epic Poker League plays to final table: There are just six players left in the first EPL $20K main event, which is being held in the Palms in Las Vegas. More here. The players left are good ones: Hasan Habib is the chip leader, and he is joined by Erik Seidel, Chino Rheem, Gavin Smith, Jason Mercier and Huck Seed.

If you’re playing catch up, Card Player has a video from day 3:

Mercier currently leads Bluff’s latest power rankings, which you can see here. We’re guessing his hold on the spot will grow after this tournament. Rheem currently leads the final table in getting called out at 2+2 for scummy behavior; read the thread here.

Daniel Negreanu talks here about why he’s not playing in the EPL — he says it’s because he doesn’t believe the venture will succeed. We’re not sure why that matters that much in playing a poker tournament, which you can either play in or not. The long-term success of the event would seem not to matter that much to Negreanu. We’re guessing his non-involvement has way more to do with his long-running feud with Annie Duke, who is the commissioner of the league.

Girls+poker+cruise=?: We had never heard of Kandykruise before, but now we have thanks to wickedchopspoker. Lots of scantily clad women on a cruise with lots of poker? Sounds like a good time. WCP is sending one of its readers on the cruise; details here. Here’s a video of what the cruise is about:

Online poker slow in Washington D.C.: Like pretty much anything in the nation’s capital, the rollout for regulated online poker in the District of Columbia is getting held up in bureaucracy. Details here; at this point it seems unlikely that anything concrete is going to happen this year, so District residents likely won’t be playing online poker till 2012, if at all.

Terry predicts hardest-ever EPL

London: Chelsea captain John Terry is predicting the most fiercely contested title race in years as the Premier League kicks-off on Saturday after a summer of lavish spending by English football’s elite.

Terry believes defending champions Manchester United remain the team to beat after bolstering their playing staff with the signings of England forward Ashley Young, Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea and Blackburn defender Phil Jones.

But the 30-year-old Stamford Bridge defender believes that half a dozen teams could realistically challenge for the title, pointing to Manchester City and Liverpool’s bold raids in the transfer market.

“I’m worried about a lot of teams this season. Everyone has strengthened,” said Terry at this week’s official launch of the Premier League.

“Manchester City and Manchester United have bought in some good players, Liverpool seemed to have strengthened a lot. There are six or seven teams who can really push and have a chance of winning the trophy.”

Terry is adamant however that Manchester United will represent the biggest hurdle if Chelsea are to reclaim the crown they last won in 2010.

“We can catch Manchester United,” said Terry. “They have been the benchmark for 20 years. We pushed them to the end last season but missed out. We all see their quality and the hunger they have and that the manager has too. It really drives me on and seeing them lift the trophy last year still hurts to this day. I want to get my hands back on it and lift it. The com5petition is improving every year. The players are getting stronger and the managers want it even more.”

Chelsea open their campaign with a potentially awkward away trip to Stoke on Sunday, while Manchester United get their quest for a 20th league title under way against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

Left back Patrice Evra is doubtful for the opener, Ferguson said on Friday. The Frenchman tweaked his knee in last Sunday’s Community Shield when United came from behind to beat neighbours Manchester City 3-2 at Wembley.

“We’ll give him until tomorrow but he is doubtful,” Ferguson told a news conference ahead of Sunday’s trip to West Brom.

One player who will definitely miss out is Mexican striker Javier Hernandez who suffered a concussion during their pre-season tour of the United States.
